John Cena proposal at your 2 o’clock, soldiers. At WestleMania 33 John knelt down and showed dudes everywhere just what it means to put it all on the line by popping the question to his longtime girlfriend Nikki Bella.
John proposed to Nikki after the duo defeated foes The Miz and Maryse, who are a married couple in real life, in a tag team match.
In the past, Cena has been reluctant about marriage. He had tied the knot once before in 2009 with Elizabeth Huberdeau, but it only lasted three years, until 2012. However, his relationship with Bella is a lot different, he says.
“I found the absolute right person,” said Cena. He said of Bella that she is “a strong person that I consider an inspiration, an equal. Somebody who when I’m feeling down, picks me up. Somebody when she’s down I can pick her up.”
Let’s examine for a second, the kind of stones that a public proposal takes. First of all, to propose at all takes cojones. You’re laying it all on the line saying, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. The one person that makes my life complete. You’re risking rejection the magnitude that no door-to-door salesman can begin to imagine. Not only that, you’re doing it in front of, in this case, a WrestleMania crowd: fans who get enjoyment by seeing grown men body-slammed to the ground in humiliation.
But that didn’t stop Cena. He took a knee and put it all on the line.
So what is the proper reaction to a John Cena proposal?
Nikki was ecstatic. Having a muscle-bound man kneel down in front of you publicly and bare his soul has got to be up there with some of the peak experiences in life. She said yes with a kiss, and dropped her jaw at the massive round-cut diamond on a channel-set band.
And this John Cena proposal was not without an emotional speech. He explained his previous reluctance and how he changed his mind. “I promised I would tell you when the time is right,” he said. “The time is right.”
Nikki took to Twitter to share her joy because that’s how you do it in 2017.
The couple has talked about marriage publicly before. Back in 2016 on an episode of Total Divas he said, “Would I love to marry you? Absolutely.”
He then clarified by saying “What I’m afraid of – and this is the one thing I am very much afraid of – if we were to get married tomorrow, and then you come to the conclusion that you want children, you know where I stand.”
He also added, “In no way would I ask you to sacrifice anything for me.” No one knows what exactly has transpired between then and now. But it appears that everything has worked out.
